NIKON - CHASING THE LIGHT by Florian Schulz

About a year ago I received an intriguing email from Nikon Tokyo asking me if I would have the time to participate in a special project. Little idea did I have that a few months later I would have the honor to be the first photographer to shoot the new Nikon D600 in the field. From the beginning it was clear to me that I wanted to create a powerful video along with the images and asked my brother Salomon Schulz, who specializes in film-making, to be part of the team to create the official Nikon D600 Movie. Looking at the specs of the D600, we realized this was an extremely versatile camera. That is the reason why we wanted to test the camera shooting landscapes and wildlife, from the deserts of the South West to the mountains of Alaska, and that in winter time.

For us photography is a passion that goes far beyond the technical aspects of a camera. It is about experiencing the natural world. In "CHASING THE LIGHT" we wanted to get the feeling across what it is like to head out into the wild to document the natural world. We wanted everybody who likes nature photography to see themselves in this film and say: It is about time I am getting out into the field again. I hope this film does this for you! Jason Smyth - Paralympian by DESIGN FOR LIFE

Visually impaired sprinter Jason Smyth achieved fame at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games when he won the 100m (10.62) and 200m (21.4 3) T13 races in world record times. He fully merits his nickname of “The Fastest Paralympian on Earth”. The Derry man is based in Florida and trains with US sprint king Tyson Gay, a former world champion and owner of the second fastest 100m of all-time. Gay describes Jason as “one of the most technically gifted sprinters alive”. Jason’s success in Beijing was no surprise as two years earlier he had won gold in the 100m (10.86) and 200m (21.83) at the 2006 IPC Athletics World Championships in the Netherlands. A back injury ruled him out of the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in New Zealand, but he, together with fellow Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, competed at 2011’s IAAF World Championships in Korea. Jason achieved the Olympic “B” standard time for 100m (10.22 seconds) but fell just short of the “A” standard of 10.18 – this would have made him the first track athlete to compete at both Olympic and Paralympic Games. Jason is now focused on retaining his Paralympic 100m and 200m titles. The International Paralympic Committee have marked him as one to watch at the Games – he’ll have high hopes of glory in London’s Olympic Stadium.

Purely Pacific Northwest by John Eklund

I am a photographer from Portland, Oregon. I want to share the beautiful NW region through my eyes with time-lapse photography. I choose to shoot locations that appeal to the way I would like to interpret the story of time. Here in the Pacific Northwest, there are endless opportunities to document the magnificence of the world around us. I have discovered that when time is the storyteller, a special kind of truth emerges. Various locations include ... Mt. Shuksan, Crater Lake, Mt. Bachelor, Mount St. Helens, Oregon's Badlands, Painted Hills, Cape Kiwanda, Mt. Hood, Lost lake, and Cannon Beach I started this project in July 2011 and shot the final scene in August 2012. I took approximately 260,000 images. I used 6.3 TB of hard drive space. NYT - Circle Squared by HunterGatherer

Circle Squared is a commissioned animation for the New York Times' 'T Magazine'. It was released around the holidays as part of a series of shorts that explored the theme of 'Giving'. The story is told through stop-motion animation, using toy-like hand-made wooden forms. The shapes interact similarly to the way Russian dolls nest. These cube-animal shapes originate from the idea of a box containing a gift, but instead of depicting a literal gift-giving situation, the story is rooted in the cycle of nature, where animals end up unwittingly giving of themselves so that other creatures may live. Circle Squared won a Webby and was nominated for a 2007 Emmy.

Right Beneath the Surface by Eliot Rausch

In Loving Memory of Issa Albert Simon (08/28/1981 - 07/10/2012) written by Eliot Rausch "I'm not sure what keeps us above the surface. Above the darkness. Above the place of finality. An invisible line. On the edge of life. Slipping. Here. Right now. Delicate and fragile. It is my breath. A heartbeat. As I fight. As I surrender. To it's force. It's pull. Somehow it keeps me. Pushes me. Lifts me. Without me. Where there is no time. No line. No darkness. It is here. I understand. Here. Right beneath the surface." Searchers found the body of a Rancho Cucamonga man east of Barstow two days after he disappeared from a religious retreat. Issa Albert Simon, 30, was found dead at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday about eight miles from the St. Antony Coptic Orthodox Monastery, which sits on 360 acres in Newberry Springs. Friends last saw Simon about 7:30 p.m. Monday. He did not attend an 8 p.m. service at the monastery and was not seen the rest of the night or the next day. Visitors at the retreat called the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday and reported Simon missing. "They were concerned because the man had left his belongings behind," said sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Bachman. Sheriff's personnel in helicopters swept across the remote desert area, trying to find any sign of the man. "That was probably the most important part of the search because we're talking about a large area of wide open desert," Bachman said. Search-and-rescue teams hit the ground later in the day and continued looking for Simon through the night, using trackers and all-terrain vehicles. Officials at the Fort Irwin National Training Center offered a helicopter to help with the search. About 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, members of one of the search teams found tracks and then spotted some marks where the man may have fallen, Bachman said. His body was found several hours later. Bachman said there is no evidence that Simon was the victim of foul play. ICELAND EMOTIONAL LANDSCAPES by Cyril Balta

What can I say about this amazing country? This is probably the most surprising, beautiful, impressive and powerful place I've ever been to. It's like Mother Nature is giving a show. Thanx to Iceland I realised that our beloved Planet Earth is living under our feet, moving and breathing like us, little human beings. Sitting in front of these gigantic glaciers thongs, watching icebergs at Jokulsarlon, walking on lava fields, craters, black sand beaches, smelling the sulfur of Namafjall, listening to the deep roar of Dettifoss waterfall... well, you can't possibly forget this experience. About the film, it was shot (on GH1) in september 2011 during a 15 days roadtrip around the island. The weather was really really bad: 5°C average temperature, heavy wind and rain almost 24h/24 until the last couple of days. Actually when the sun appeared we almost had tears of joy! I also made the soundtrack myself, it has been quite a long process, but hopefully you will appreciate the final result. Enjoy and visit Iceland!

EXISTENCE A TIMELAPSE PROJECT by Michael Shainblum

Its been almost a year since i started my journey into time-lapse photography. This project has been an ongoing process for about 4 months. There was a lot of trial and error, there were also many sleepless nights in many different unexpected places. This film has taught me about patience and what it really takes to achieve the shot that you dream about in your head. The gear isn't as important as the passion you put within your work. This short video is called EXISTENCE. The video is a statement not only about time and progression, but also a statement about the world we have created for ourselves. The videos contrasts the two extremes of life itself. The urban metropolis and the beauty outside the city. I love to stargaze, watching the milky way float across the sky is one of the most therapeutic experiences i have felt. If you havent, then i strongly recommend taking the time to do so. Colombia - Timelapse by MB Films

Colombia - 2012 On my second holiday to this stunning country I decided to do the fatal thing and take my camera along with me. I thought about shooting a timelapse shot or two… I ended up filming on average 2 shots per day over the course of 4 weeks and it really became a working holiday! I was a little nervous to begin with. I had been there before, but didn’t take my DSLR along with me. Now Colombia is vastly safer than it was 20-30 years ago – however its still a little risky if you don’t know where to go. Also, the very nature of timelapse means your stuck in one place for an hour or two and it could be a nice target for opportunists! Luckily I had my father in law and new camera assistant Moises - He even took a small baseball bat along with him on an evening in Bogota! In the end we weren’t troubled at all and I’m so glad I managed to capture so many great images. Quite a bit of this film was shot in Bogota, and in the Quindio region, including Armenia. We also travelled to Melgar, Manizales and Pereira. I was limited in what I could take kit wise due to travelling with a baby. So I took a very lightweight tripod, a Canon7D and my trusty 17-55mm f2.8 lens. Had a few problems with camera shake in post, but actually the small tripod held up OK! This time round I shot a fair amount of HDR timelapse – and had days of processing with Photomatix. On balance I think it was really worth it. So many of the scenes had extreme exposure contrast and I really wanted to preserve detail in the sky and in the landscape itself. It was cut using FCP, and graded with Magic Bullet Looks. All of the tilt shift effects are done in post using Magic Bullet. Please do go ahead and visit this country if you get the chance! Ed Beck MB Films

Legend: A Journey Through Iceland by Henry Jun Wah Lee

Like us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/evosiastudios Follow us on Twitter: www.twitter.com/evosia Website: www.evosiastudios.com A joint collaboration with rock / ambient / experimental band MONO (www.monoishere.com), Legend takes you on an epic 12 minute visual and aural journey through Iceland's breathtaking landscapes during the time of the midnight sun. The film travels across Iceland, from the floating blue icebergs of Jokulsarlon's glacial lagoon to the steaming geothermic vents of Myvatn, the colorful mountains of Landmannalaugar to the breathtaking sunsets on Snaefellnes Peninsula, and the barren volcanic landscapes of Askja to the vast fields of lupin near Husavik. Legend was shot over a 2 week period in June 2012 when the sun barely sets below the horizon and you never see darkness. It was filmed completely in 5K resolution using Canon full frame DSLRs on motion timelapse equipment from Kessler Crane. Mono's score of the same name, Legend, is from their upcoming album "For my parents". Its edgy cinematic and epic quality helps describe Iceland - a breathtakingly beautiful yet unforgivingly dangerous place. The album is available for pre-order: http://www.monoishere.com/2012/07/30/pre-order-for-my-parents-now/ We would like to thank the following supporters for making this film possible: Kessler Crane: www.KesslerCrane.com Glacier Rental Car: www.glaciercarrental.is Special thanks to Egill Agustsson and Adalsteinn Petur Karlsson of Husavik for their help with my car problems on Iceland National Day. It's the country's biggest holiday and they helped me get back on the road so I could continue filming. Last but not least, a big thank you to fellow filmmaker Joe Capra (www.scientifantastic.com) for his guidance and inspiration. His tips and advice were invaluable in helping me prepare for this trip. A 4K version will be released soon, along with a behind the scenes video! Please follow or subscribe to us to receive the latest updates.

Within Two Worlds by Goldpaint Photography

"Within Two Worlds depicts an alternate perspective by giving us the illusion of times movement, signifying a beginning and end within a world of constant contradiction. It appears you are traveling in the midst of a dream, half-sleeping, half-waking, and touching the arch connecting heaven and earth." I discovered my passion for photography shortly after my mother’s passing while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) 3 years ago. This time-lapse video is my visual representation of how the night sky and landscapes co-exist within a world of contradictions. I hope this connection between heaven and earth inspires you to discover and create your own opportunities, to reach your rightful place within two worlds. Please feel free to share #withintwoworlds! North by Studiocanoe

Svalbard is an archipelago high within the Arctic Circle. The largest of its islands is called Spitsbergen, meaning “pointed mountains.” In 1920 a treaty known as the Svalbard Act was signed by several nations recognising Norwegian sovereignty over the islands, and declaring the whole region a demilitarized zone. This is a short film about how Svalbard, over the course of recent history, became increasingly linked to developments in climate science, and climate change. Much of the footage was shot whilst on residency in the Arctic Circle in 2010. It is brief for a subject so large, and lacks the detail of key facts and figures that would provide a much better understanding of the current consensus on climate. Then again, you may perhaps feel it has too many numbers already. It is my hope that regardless of what you make of the content, you will find it beautiful to watch.

Anchorage By Winter by Zan Butler

So this is what I did over this past winter when I was not making people coffee. It's all time-lapse footage shot in and around Anchorage, Alaska, with the emphasis on the nature around the city rather then on the people and buildings. This is a collection of the nicer stuff I shot of the northern lights, stars, sunset, and the tide. All of this was shot between October 2011 and April 2012. The music is Aston's Classical Cover of the song You've Got The Love by Florence & The Machine. http://www.youtube.com/astonmusic Music used with the bands permission. : ) Equipment used: Canon 5D Mark II Canon Rebel xTi (modified to full spectrum) Canon EF 24 - 105 mm Sigma DC 18 - 200 mm Sigma 8mm EX DG Fisheye (a thoroughly epic lens) Dynamic Perception Stage Zero Dolly (kinda beyond epic) Orion TeleTrack AZ-G Mount (really good for astrophotography) Motorcycle and Car batteries from my locale battery store And a lot of wires that connect everything together. Adobe Bridge CS4 and CS5 Adobe Photoshop CS4 Adobe Lightroom 3 LRTimelapse (pretty much the most amazing software ever) Hugin (for unwrapping the 8mm shots) Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 (for making the stills move) (Please note that the colours look different (like a lot) on different screens. The colours here look desaturated from the original file on my screen. But the colours look like the original on other screens, but not all, I'm not sure why.)

Sea Bites: The line between bravery and fear for a bite out of the sea. A short documentary by David Beriain. 12min. Synopsis: The wind roars. The sea crashes against the cliff. Two meters of rock, that is the strip of water and oxygen where the goose barnacle grows. Two meters where the sea shows no mercy, and beats with millenary strength. A line of waves and foam where Serxo and his comrades fight for a bite out of the sea. A line between bravery and fear. Between recklessness and common sense. Two meters without margin of error. That is where the barnacles live. Where Serxo lives. SEA BITES is the battle against the sea from some warriors that don't consider themselves heroes. The Secret Number - Full Film by Colin Levy

"The Secret Number" is a short sci-fi (ish) psychological drama that was created over a period of two years by a team of young filmmakers from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Based on the short story by Igor Teper, THE SECRET NUMBER is about a man whose world is thrown into question. Psychiatrist Simon Tomlin (Daniel Jones) has a troubling conversation with one of his patients - a brilliant mathematician named Ersheim (Tom Nowicki), whi intends to prove the existence of a secret integer between three and four. Ersheim's delusion compels Tomlin to dig deeper, but he only uncovers more questions -- about fate, connection… the nature of reality. Fable by Daniel Sousa

2005, 7 minutes, 35mm Sound Design by Dan Golden In this cyclical fairy tale, a man and a woman are cursed to be forever apart. We never see them inhabit the same space but yet we feel that there's a connection between them. One common element is that they both have the power to transform into animals. But when they do they are compelled to hunt down and destroy the other. They become blind to their passions and are overwhelmed by their instincts. Technique: Most of the rough animation was prepared in Flash along with the corresponding color fill layers. The drawings were then printed, traced, and cleaned up on paper to achieve a more organic quality. They were then re-scanned and composited in After Effects. Some of the drawings were etched on acetate and rubbed with ink. The backgrounds were a combination of paintings, collages, and photos. The animation was rendered in HD and transfered to 35mm film. Waltz for One by INTELLECTUAL PROPAGANDA

A lone astronaut on an endurance mission is forced to cope with an intrusive force which threatens to derail the operation. During the space race of the 1960's, the Soviets and Americans were at each other's throats, vying for a foothold in galactic exploration. Simultaneous to the superpower's struggle, a wealthy eccentric by the name of Arthur Whitman set out to search for his own stellar glory. His self-financed voyage would see him try to break the record for the longest single-manned space mission, and remain in orbit for 1 week. This is a story of one man's struggle against the forces of nature, and the more powerful forces that lay within his own psyche. http://INTELLECTUALPROPAGANDA.COM http://waltzforone.com Directed by John Merizalde (http://johnmerizalde.com) Produced by Takashi Doscher (http://takashidoscher.com) Cinematography by David Torcivia (http://davidtorcivia.com) Released June 19th, 2012 to commemorate the 49th anniversary of the longest solo space flight in history. The record was set by Valery Bykovsky with a total flight time of 4 days and 23 hours. The entire film was made on a budget of less than $700.

Turbo

TURBO is a high adrenaline short film in the tradition of The Karate Kid and Tron. It tells the story of Hugo Park (Justin Chon, Twilight) a troubled youth whose only outlet for angst is a 4D fighting videogame called “Super Turbo Arena”. When Pharaoh King (Jocko Sims, Crash the Series), the Michael Jordan of cyber-sports, announces a tournament to determine who will join his pro-team, Hugo sets his eyes on the prize. But, Hugo isn't the only gamer who wants fame and glory. If Hugo wants to win he's going to have to beat Shamus (David Lehre, Epic Movie), the all time Turbo champ at the local Pandemonium arcade, and Ruse Kapri, a feisty prep girl that knows how to win. Realizing he can't win on his skill alone, Hugo turns to his brother Tobias a former kick-boxer whose last match left him wheel-chair ridden. Together the two will mend old wounds and see if a washed up street fighter can teach a troubled teen how to become a virtual gladiator!

A Life On Hold by marc silver

An intimate portrait of Omar, a 17 year old stranded in a refugee camp since the 2011 war in Libya. The film offers a unique perspective of one person amongst thousands waiting for a chance to start their life again in a safe country. When war broke out earlier this year in Libya, thousands of refugees from countries such as Somalia, Sudan, and Eritrea, who were living in or transiting through the country at the time, were forced to flee for their lives yet again. They are now waiting in refugee camps along the Tunisian and Egyptian borders - unable to return home due to war or persecution, unable to return to Libya due to ongoing violence and discrimination, and unable to stay in Tunisia or Egypt, countries both undergoing their own political upheavals.

Earth | Time Lapse View from Space

Time lapse sequences of photographs taken by the crew of expeditions
28 & 29 onboard the International Space Station from August to October,
2011, who to my knowledge shot these pictures at an altitude of around 350 km.
All credit goes to them.

HD, refurbished, smoothed, retimed, denoised, deflickered, cut, etc.
All in all I tried to keep the looks of the material as original as possible,
avoided adjusting the colors and the like, since in my opinion the original
footage itself already has an almost surreal and aestethical visual nature.
